Tessa Thompson will direct the cast of ‘The Listener’.
The 38-year-old actress stars in the content film which was directed by Steve Buscemi and was filmed in Los Angeles in August and September.
The film tells the story of Beth (Thompson), a helpline volunteer who is part of the Small Army who is on the phone every night across the United States, answering calls from all kinds of people feeling alone, broken and desperate.
The plot description reads: “Over the past year the tide has turned into a tsunami, and as Beth completes her shift the stakes are rising: is this the night she’s going to lose someone? ‘a? save someone? put a mind at ease? make someone smile?
âEventually Beth’s own story comes to light, revealing why she’s doing it. Throughout the day, we stay with her: listen to her, comfort her, connect her – put the world back together, one point at a time.â
The film was written by Alessandro Camon and was produced by Steve and Wren Arthur under their Olive Productions banner with Tessa and Oren Moverman for Sight Unseen Pictures.
Verve is handling the film’s domestic sales and is planning a premiere at a major film festival next year.
Tessa previously played the title role in the romantic drama “Sylvie’s Love” – ââwhich takes place in the 1950s – and enjoyed wearing vintage costumes during the film.
The ‘Creed’ star said, âIt was real 1950s clothes, we didn’t have any money, so to capture the period we just used a lot of vintage clothes. We had beautiful, exquisite pieces. but we also literally had the smell of history on them!
“I brought home a few pointy bras and thought I would bring this aesthetic back, but I didn’t quite get it!”
