Senator Alimikhena abandons APC and directs dozens of supporters to PDP in Edo

On Friday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) camp, the senators, got poorer as the senator representing the Edo North Senatorial District, Senator Francis Alimikhena, dumped the ruling party for the opposition Peoples Party Democratic Party (PDP).

Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu received Alimikhena and dozens of other former Edo North APC stalwarts at PDP at Deputy Governor, GRA, Benin City.

The defectors, who hailed from all six local government areas of the Edo North Senatorial District, said they were quitting the APC following the injustice against the senator, who was denied a return ticket to the upper house, after losing the CPA senatorial ticket. to former state governor Comrade Adams Oshiomole.

Receiving the defectors, Shaibu blamed Oshiomhole for choosing to contest the senatorial election, saying it did not sit well with any political party leader.

The Deputy Governor said that having attained the position of National Chairman of the APC, Oshiomhole should have taken on the role of a statesman, who would be called upon at critical times to solve the problems of the party.

“When you have problems in a political party, you run to the leader to find solutions. But when you have the leader himself challenging the election, who will you run to when there are issues,” Shaibu asked.

He noted that the way Senator Alimikhena was kicked out of the APC senatorial race was the same way the National Working, NWC, led by Oshiomhole, disqualified him (Shaibu) and Governor Godwin Obaseki from the 2020 CPA gubernatorial primaries, adding that it was unfortunate. that nothing had changed in the party.

Shaibu said he was delighted to be reunited with the people, with whom he had shared a political journey in the party, pointing out that the defection was the start of a movement that would sweep away the victory of the PDP in Edo North and the State as a whole. in the next general election in 2023.

“You are welcome at the PDP. Together we will change the face of Edo North and the state in general. This is definitely a meeting to save the country. Although I am very excited today, the aspect that excites me the most is the invitation to Edo North to witness a tsunami of defection that will lead the PDP to victory at all levels of government by 2023 enthused Shaibu.

Representatives of the defectors from the six local government areas that make up the district said they wanted to join Alimikhena in the PDP because of her unparalleled achievements, adding that their coming to the PDP was to look for a refugee and the start of good things in party it.

They claimed that joining the party meant the end of the APC and resounding victories for the PDP in subsequent elections in the region.
